Early Life[]
Hijiri is part of a wealthy family, likely because of his father. Before going to Anzu's school, he went to a high-class escalator school for the rich, but his father had him transferred. According to Tsuchiya, Hijiri's had special treatment since he was a boy, with everything being given to him. At some point as a kid, he asked to see what was under Tsuchiya's glasses, to which Tsuchiya replied he had to keep them on to prevent lasers shooting from his eyes. He was so scared that he refused to look at him for days, then he told Hijiri it was because of an evil spirit who cursed him that made his eyes fall out, then told him that it was actually two hard-boiled eggs split in half, both scaring Hijiri greatly.

First Appearance[]
(Episode 6-7)[]
Hijiri makes his first physical appearance in Episode 6, when Anzu gets hit by his car. At first, Tsuchiya is the one to apologize, but then he comes out of the car, holding toast in his mouth claiming that she intentionally went in front of the car to get noticed and to purposefully get hit. This interaction continues in episode seven, where Tsuchiya offers Anzu a ride to school. During the car ride, Anzu apologizes for making the two of them late, which Hijiri claims that his exceptional record will let a small tardy like this would slide. He goes back to his narcissistic behavior, saying that Anzu must feel blessed for getting a ride to school with him. The two exchanged goodbyes, and it is later that Anzu learns Hijiri is a rich boy, who is considered a prince at the school, even having his own fan club where everyone referred to him as "Prince Hijiri".
He then met with Anzu again, which she thought she was going to discuss the details of the accident. Hijiri however, thought that this was to land a date with him. Hijiri was repulsed by how Anzu was dressed, so he shoved her into a car, taking her to a designer store and dressing her up to make her more classy. When Anzu came out wearing heels, he was implied to be jealous of her height. When their business was done at the store, he dragged her again to her car to take her out to lunch. Anzu, visibly confused by this situation happening, tries to get an explanation out of him. She thought this was from the accident, but Hijiri thought she was playing dumb, thinking that she conducted this to score a date with him. Anzu thought that only an idiot would try something like this, to which Hijiri casually replied that multiple people did this, unfortunately causing Tsuchiya's driver's license to be in the red, already it being suspended once. Further into the drive, Anzu requests for Tsuchiya to stop the car. She exits the car and tosses the jewelry and shoes into the car, saying she wasn't interested. Hijiri is left shocked, because no girl ever had the gut to tell him they weren't interested.
During school again, his fan club was surrounding him while he was thinking about what happened. Anzu comes up behind him, calling him by his full name. He says to address her with more respect, but she says they were the same age anyways. She returned him the dress which was now dry-cleaned and properly packaged. He said he wasn't going to be concerned with that 'peasant' (referring to Anzu) anymore, but her attitude bothered her. He requested for Tsuchiya to do a bit of research on her.
While Anzu and Junta were walking home, and while Anzu was getting extremely angry at Riri, Hijiri pulls up in his car, saying he was going to make her obsessed with him. He is invited into the house of Hoshino, and one glance around the place made him think the place was small and cramped. He looked at Riri and Junta, asking him who they were, saying his business was only with Anzu. Riri claimed she was her cousin, and told him Junta was Anzu's childhood friend. When Anzu came back (with a tray of iced tea) , Tsuchiya had boxes for her. Boxes filled with new and expensive game consoles, and expensive chocolates. Tsuchiya then proceeded to open a cage filled with kittens. Hijiri now thought he had her, but Riri pulled Anzu aside to talk with her in private. Hijiri and Junta were now left, having a little conversation about Anzu's accident. Junta asked whether or not Koganei had feelings for Anzu, to which Hijiri claimed that he wasn't going to give love, but he was one to receive it. He told Junta about how Anzu said she wasn't interested, and he was doing all this to get her attention. Junta humbled him a bit, saying that just because he was rich and attractive, she wont be friends with him.
Once Anzu came back, she politely refused his offer, telling him that she was sorry for hurting his pride, but he should find someone else that would fawn all over him, saying that because he's human, he would understand. She said that even though his parents were rich, he shouldn't brag about it, and that he should brag about money he earned himself. She finished it off by telling him that if he didn't have Momohiki, he wouldn't get a chance.
On someday after this situation, he begins to work a part-time job at Anzu's place. Unbeknownst to Anzu, she gets up and gets ready to greet him, then proceeds to get shocked when she discovers its Hijiri himself. His efforts are surprisingly good, as he is very dedicated to his job, considering his charm and all. When Anzu confronts him, he says his service isn't all that. A part-time co-worker of hers steps in, agreeing with her, then proceeding to teach him certain Tsundere phrases to say after, to charm the customers into coming back. Eventually on social media, he became known as the "Convenience Store Prince", (Mini-mart Prince in the manga), attracting plenty of customers. However, he is actually trying to learn more about normal life.
As soon as payday hits, he runs into Anzu again, asking her what she wants, saying he could fulfill anything her "peasant heart desires", and that he earned the money all on his own, saying she shouldn't get the wrong idea, that it wasn't like he did any of that for her, the hot-and-cold personality getting sent into him. Anzu then decides what she wants, and the two go to a park to enjoy it. He asks what it is, and it was Pipiko, a reference to the Japanese snack Papiko. Anzu says it's the perfect thing to share with friends to him. He says it was artificial and cheap, but it wasn't so bad. During this moment, Anzu slaps herself to prevent herself from falling for him, saying it was to get her sanity back.
Episode 8[]
Hijiri and Tsuchiya run into Anzu and Riri (in the form of Rio) as Anzu and Rio were doing a mock date as he was conducting market and customer research. Rio calls out Hijiri as the guy Anzu ditched on a date. Rio and Hiijiri slowly engage into a minor argument about who would make a better date for Anzu. Anzu steps in, saying he shouldn't let Rio's words get to him.
